About Me

Do you remember when you were a child? All those times your mother sat there and fed you by spoon to ensure you ate what was on your plate? I had many of those days and as I got older, I noticed a similar theme in my mother's teachings. She would always tell me never to leave anything unfinished. So I didn't. I would finish what was on my plate as well as what was on my daily agenda.
My name is Courtney James and I am a 23 year old recent graduate of The City College of New York with my Bachelors Degree in English. I was brought up in a West Indian household and though I respect the ideals of my mother wanting me to follow the footsteps of the Kirby women by becoming a nurse, I see my calling for life on the literary path.  I love all forms of writing. Stories are what allow me to enjoy life the most. Furthering my education and stepping outside of my boundaries are what allow me to experience life the most. Hence, why I have chosen to focus on a career in publishing.
Through the Publishing Certificate Program at The City College of New York, I have been able to see myself gaining a job as an editor for a trade paperback publisher. In the next five years I pray I'll have my feet in the door of a respectable publishing company. As of now, I currently work with the New York Post all the while peeping through the tenth floor windows to stare at Simon & Schuster. I am fully aware that goals are not over-night transactions but that is exactly what lets me know my task is not done.
